Ship Updates and Fun Facts

Wednesday,

This morning, we woke up in the port of Palermo, Italy. Around 8:00 AM, some of the crew got off the ship and new crew members and scientists came aboard! Mrs. Duffy started training another educator and I wrote my first dive report in the data lab!

Mrs. Duffy and I planned to video chat the sixth grade today, but unfortunately the ship’s satellite is down. This means we are still in port in Italy. We hope to fix the satellite so we can get Internet connection back and be able to talk to CHC!

Nautilus Fun Facts: food consumed onboard
  • Amount of meat required to feed 48 people on an expedition: 1.5 tons (3000 lbs)
  • Bags of popcorn eaten onboard: 1,215 bags
  • Cups of coffee consumed: 150 per day/1,050 per week/4,200 per month
  • Pounds of tomatoes: 800 per expedition
  • Jars of Nutella consumed: 100 jars per expedition
  • Jars of mayonnaise consumed: 100 jars per expedition
  • Amount of oranges eaten onboard: 2,720 oranges
  • Pounds of pasta consumed: 500 pounds

Luckily the satellite is back up and running now!! Mrs. Duffy and I will speak with the Nautilus Live Theater at the Mystic aquarium in Connecticut this evening about our adventures so far. We hope to have a video chat with CHC next week after we have done some dives. It’s about time for us to take off from port! Our first stop is Eolo sea mound where we will release the HOVs (Hercules and Argus). Follow Nautiluslive.org for updates on our expedition!
